Quiet Saint Patrick’s Day
Bob Meldrum
The police operation in Sandy Hill on St. Patrick’s Day was very successful. It kept the revelers from being too wild and dangerous, but allowed them to enjoy the lovely weather. As a correspondent for IMAGE, I walked around the area, especially Russell Avenue, three times from noon to 9 p.m. I was greeted by both students and police — especially when I said ‘thank you’ to the police on my last round.
Editor’s note: According to Const. Islam, Sandy Hill’s Community Police Officer, about 40 fines were handed out for bylaw infringements, including two for $1,000, but overall, the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations occurred without major incident.
