Sandy Hill artist HH invites you to her first public exhibit
Hala Hawa
I arrived in Ottawa as a teenager in 1977 and have been living in charming Sandy Hill since 1990. After three decades of practicing design, research and management, in 2017 a sequence of events led me back to my childhood passion of drawing and painting. This practice helps me make sense of the world, tell a story, and reconnect with others. Since then, my art collection grew organically to well over 150 paintings, some displayed at private residences in Canada, USA and Europe.
My artwork is as diverse as my life! I love painting portraits of people and animals, nature and abstract. My perspective on life is influenced by my childhood in the Middle East, adult life in Canada, adventures in international travels, and architecture and industrial design education and practice.
I am especially a fan of avant-garde artists such as Dali, Miro, Van Gogh, Klimt and Mondrian, among others.
I approach my artwork with curiosity around the story and complexity of the subject, expressed in various mediums including pastels (oil and soft), watercolours, acrylic paint and pen, and ink pen and pencil.
Motivated by primal curiosity and an admiration of nature and its inhabitants, I often experience “aha!” moments when discovering new ways of doing art during experimentation with mediums, substrate, tools and techniques.
I hope that you will visit my first public exhibit in Ottawa, at the Ottawa Little Theatre’s Spot Light Gallery, on until January 5. Admission to the gallery is free during OLT show times; even if you have not purchased tickets to the theatre, you can visit the gallery.
